Premier Sports Cup group stages draw pairs Elgin City with Inverness Caledonian Thistle while Highland League champions Brora Rangers draw Premiership duo Kilmarnock and Livingston

The first cup draw of the next Scottish football season has thrown up a north ‘derby’.

Elgin City have been drawn in the same group as Inverness Caley Thistle.

The north pair don’t have a Premiership side in their section, as relegated St Johnstone are the top seeded side in that group.

Raith Rovers and Lowland League champions East Kilbride, who join Elgin in League 2 next term, make up the section.

Only the group winners and the best three runners-up make it through from the group stages.

As a pot four team, Elgin are expected to have home matches on Saturdays July 12 and 19.

They could face Caley Thistle in Inverness on Tuesday, July 15 if fixtures run to the same schedule as previous seasons.

Ross County, who were relegated from the Premiership this week, are top seeds in Group B with Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Edinburgh City and Stranraer.

Highland League champions Brora Rangers will face two Premiership teams in Kilmarnock and Livingston, along with League 1 duo Kelty Hearts and East Fife.
