Elgin City prepare for their Scottish Gas Scottish Cup clash with Aberdeen by drawing with Forfar Athletic in William Hill League 2 at Station Park

Elgin City warmed up for their big Scottish Cup clash against Aberdeen with a share of the spoils at Forfar Athletic.

The Black and Whites drew 1-1 against a home side managed by former boss Jim Weir, a result which sees City slip to third place.

Russell Dingwall’s superb strike from distance put Elgin ahead with 15 minutes to go but the Loons pegged them back.

East Fife’s 2-0 win over Clyde puts them five points clear at the top, with Peterhead overtaking Elgin with a 1-0 success at Edinburgh City.

Play was tentative on a slippery Station Park 4G pitch and although Forfar had a first half effort cleared off the line, neither side could make a breakthrough.

Both teams found the net in quick succession after half time but Forfar’s goal was ruled out for offside and a Dajon Golding strike met a similar fate.

City edged in front with a spectacular Dingwall shot from the edge of the box.

But their lead lasted just nine minutes as Cammy Logan curled home an equaliser six minutes from the end.

It was the second 1-1 draw between the teams at Station Park this season.

The home side remain in bottom spot in the league, three points behind Bonnyrigg Rose.

All nine Highland League fixtures were postponed on Saturday due to the wintry weather.
