Highland League: Buckie Thistle end three-game run of defeats by beating Nairn County while Fraserburgh put a stop to Formartine United’s winning sequence





Highland League champions Buckie Thistle ended a three-game losing streak with victory on Wednesday night.

Jags edged out Nairn County 2-1 in a league match at Victoria Park which was rearranged from the opening day of the season.

Joe McCabe got Buckie off to a flyer with a fourth minute opener and Jack MacIver’s fifth strike of the campaign made it 2-0.

Ben Barron rounded home keeper Mark Ridgers to pull one back on 41 minutes with his ninth goal of the season and neither side could add to the scoresheet after the break.

The win took Buckie above Forres and Huntly into seventh spot in the table.

In the night’s other match, Fraserburgh ended Formartine United’s four-game winning streak with a 2-0 success at Bellslea Park.

Sean Butcher’s goal right on half time edged Broch in front and Scott Barbour’s 12th of the season in the closing five minutes sealed the three points for Mark Cowie’s team.
