Elgin City goal hero Ryan Sargent ‘buzzing’ after scoring twice against Kelty Hearts to send Borough Briggs men into fourth round of Scottish Gas Scottish Cup

Shooting Elgin City into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup was a big highlight in the career of Ryan Sargent.

The former Fraserburgh attacker netted twice in City’s 3-2 win over Kelty Hearts on Saturday to reach the last 32 of the competition.

Sargent spoke after the game about his delight at netting a glorious first half header and a close range effort late in the game to make it 3-2, before Kelty staged a late revival to make Elgin sweat it out.

He admitted he would love to land a plum tie in Monday night’s draw, but equally he was attracted to a tie against his old club.

Fraserburgh produced one of the shocks of the round by defeating League 1 Annan Athletic 2-0, and might fancy a shot at Elgin and their old team-mate ‘Sarge’ in round four.
