A VILLAGE group for ladies kicked off their 91st season with a games night.

The Rafford Scottish Women's Institute (SWI) filled Rafford Village Hall with songs and laughter as the members guessed tunes, identities and words playing board games Noteability, What am I? and Triominos before tea and a raffle.

President Alison Prentice added: "The SWI Flower Show Quaich was awarded to our own Marjory Wallace for her lovely floral appliqué work.

"Congratulations we’re also given to Judith Watts who recently won the Moray and Nairn Federation Centenary Trophy for her account of her kitchen disaster."

Rafford SWI meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month from September to May at 7.30 pm and last around two hours, depending on the speaker, demonstrator or entertainment.

Mrs Prentice said: "Along with our own meetings, our institute is occasionally invited to visit others. There is a monthly Federation Craft Group on a Saturday, where members of institutes gather either to take part in a workshop or to work on their own craft and have a chat and cup of tea.

"There are also federation competitions, such as our recent Food and Flower Show and next Spring we have our Arts and Crafts Show.

"Socially, we have an annual Federation Quiz and this year Moray and Nairn Federation are hosting the SWI National Quiz and Matter of Opinion final on Saturday October 26 at Fochabers Institute.

"There are opportunities to take part in other national competitions, such as curling, bowling, golf, choir, drama, variations on a theme and ruralymics. There are also residential trips for handcrafts and Scottish country dancing."

Rafford SWI's next meeting is on Wednesday, October 16 with speaker Kathleen Morrison on 'Eating for Health'. Ms Morrison has researched widely on how foods can aid certain health conditions.
