FIREFIGHTERS remain at the scene of a blaze in grassland south of Forres.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at 4.13pm on Thursday, May 16.

A spokesman said: "Six fire appliances remain in attendance as crews continue to tackle a large wildfire near Forres.

"Helicopter water-bombing has taken place to control and contain the fire.

"Our firefighters will remain on scene for some time yet."

A woman who lives nearby was advised to move as the fire had spread near to her house.

She said: "We were the only household at risk, everybody else was safe as far as I know.

"There were three pockets of concern, at Johnstripe, woods near Logie Windfarm and the woods behind Westergreens and Tomnamoon."

She added: "We're back home now. There's still smoke and flames visible at places but I think it's mostly under control.

"Fire personnel are still working and keeping an eye on the situation."
