Forres Events Limited has commissioned a survey aimed at improving facilities at Grant Park
A company which has staged community events in Grant Park aims to enhance the beauty spot’s facilities.
Forres Events Ltd (FEL) - the company behind Piping At Forres and Grant Park 100 - want to hear from users of the much loved green space on what improvements could be made to its infrastructure to make it an even better place to visit.
FEL chairman, Alan James, confirmed the team staged Piping At Forres from 2013 to 2018 and marked the park’s centenary last summer with a celebratory event honouring Sir Alexander Grant, who gifted the park to the people of the town in 1924.
Mr James said: “We know what a great asset this beautiful space is for groups such as St Lawrence Cricket Club, Forres Area Soccer 7s, Forres Girls Football Club, Forres In Bloom the team behind Forres Highland Games and many others.
“We are seeking input to see what they identify as required developments that might enhance the park.”
He added: “We also recognise the role the park plays more widely for activities such as dog walking or visiting the playpark for example.
“FEL has appointed design consultants Collective Architecture to gather ideas over the coming weeks. We will then see how any of the ideas might be put into place if the necessary funds are available and park owners Moray Council are in agreement.”
Collective Architecture’s engagement process will involve direct contact with stakeholders. They will also host an informal drop-in surgery for groups and organisations at Forres Town Hall on Friday, July 4 then attend Forres Highland Games on Saturday, July 5 to raise awareness of the project and gather ideas.
Grant Park currently has floral and sunken gardens maintained by Forres In Bloom, the cricket pavilion and pitch, Grant Park Bowling Club, numerous benches, a playpark, and local business Mathers serving ice cream and refreshments.
The toilet block was enhanced last year with a colourful mural.
