A YOUTUBE video featuring the break-in of a much-loved local building is being investigated by police.

'Exploring with Alec', who currently has more than 10,000 subscribers, has a series of 12 videos including a 45-minute episode named 'Abandoned Hospital Scotland' complete with male and female guides who, after entering Leanchoil via an open window, poke around the facility in amazement at how intact it still is.

The programme is introduced: "Another explore of an abandoned hospital in Scotland. It is in great condition as it's only recently been abandoned. There is no vandalism or anything. We had to drive for hours to get here. Hope you enjoy the footage."

Middle-aged, Central Belt-accented presenter Alec is accompanied by a younger woman with a more northern accent. The pair wander through the corridors and rooms picking items off shelves to examine.

The hospital looks in remarkably good condition, despite being closed for good by NHS Grampian last October. It is still carpeted and stocked with furniture and equipment. After exploring the main annexe, the couple break-in to the old nurse's cottage via another open window.

At one point the male guide comments: "Look, there's an ambulance there!"

The programme producers did not reply to contact from the Gazette.

However, Forres Community secretary Shaun Moat has reported the video to Forres police Inspector Keli McPhail.

FCC chairman Graham Hilditch said: "It is now a police matter."

A police spokesperson said: "Insp McPhail will make enquiry. Anyone who has any information about the incident should call 101."

NHS Grampian are also aware of the video and have been reviewing security at Leanchoil in light of the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Most of the re-usable equipment has already been removed from the building with some small items remain awaiting transport. While the equipment seen in the video looks usable, unfortunately due to mechanical and electrical faults and infection control policy, it is unsuitable for the delivery of patient care. Every effort is now being made to clear the building ready for its next user.

"We continue to work with the community council to further their interest in the property and will be reviewing with them again early 2020."

NHS Grampian deemed Leanchoil Hospital unfit for purpose last year. Forres Community Council is investigating alternative uses for the site and will be making an announcement regarding it in the new year.
