Forres Police release crime report for January and February

VANDALISM was the most prevalent crime listed in the community safety partnership report made to Forres Community Council.

Local police officer Sergeant Graeme Forbes presented the figures for January and February, which also included instances of assault, threatening and abusive behaviour, breach of Covid-19 guidance, possession of an illegal substance, theft and road traffic offences.

In the report, Chief Inspector for Moray Norman Stevenson pointed out that instances of crime remain relatively low during the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: “We are fast approaching one year under Covid regulations and, whilst demand in the very early stages had a noticeable impact on reported offences, most levels of incident and subsequent crime reporting have stabilised. Fluctuation will continue depending on regulations going forward.”

He added: “I have been working to maximise wellbeing in staff and I am grateful for the continued effort by all our communities. The first half of 2021 will bring some staffing changes whilst I strive to maintain a steady course for service provision.”

There were six counts of vandalism in the local area over the period; two damaged windows at homes in Forres, to a car in Forres, a car in Findhorn and two at Drumduan School. Doors were damaged at homes in Forres. Police believe this was likely to be caused by someone trying to gain entry.

There were three assaults reported, two involving youths, all occurring in Forres. Those responsible were reported to the procurator fiscal for two of the incidents. A named suspect is being looked for for the third. There were two reports of threatening and abusive behaviour, one directed at police and both in Forres. There were three domestic assaults reported in Forres. All perpetrators have been arrested and reported.

Two people breached Covid guidance.

One person was been reported for possession of Cannabis.

There were a number of thefts from a derelict property in Forres. Also, a motorbike from Kinloss was stolen and there was an attempted theft of machinery from Riverview Park, Forres. Enquiries are ongoing for all.

Road traffic offences in Forres included careless driving, driving with no insurance, driving with an abnormal load. Two people were also charged for speeding in Alves and Brodie.

Forres Police Station is open from 9.15am to 5.15pm Monday to Thursday, and 9.15am to 2.45pm on Friday.
