IN the spirit of goodwill, Forres’ American twin town funded gifts for local families this Christmas.

Not-for-profit Florida corporation Mount Dora Sister Cities (MDSC) gifted $1000 (£715.05), supplemented by Forres Lidl and Tesco with gift bags and extra goodies.

MDSC president Julie Campbell confirmed the group’s purpose is to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the citizens of Mount Dora and Forres.

She said: “When Covid-19 hit, we recognised our common struggles and set out to give a twinned donation to food pantries in both towns.”

The grant was facilitated by Lake County Florida with the help of Rotary International and community trusts in both towns.

While resumption of student exchanges between Mount Dora and Forres remains uncertain, MDSC has been working to identify other ways to remain connected and Ms Campbell is encouraged by new connections the donation has developed.

She said: “The new lines of communication, as well as the goodwill and support, is further developing the links between our towns.”
