Forres Pipe Band will end a busy year playing for the community in the town centre.

REVELLERS are invited to a traditional gathering in the town centre this Hogmanay.

At around 11.45pm on December 31, Forres and District Pipe Band (FDPB) will march from the town hall to the Mercat Cross where they will play music until a minute before midnight when the bass drummer beats down the final ten seconds of 2019.

FDPB chairman John Channon confirmed they will then play 'Auld Lang Syne' and more until 12.15am before marching down Tolbooth Street to the Royal British Legion (Scotland) to play for guests until around 1am.

He said: "George Alexander and his team will prepare an enclosure for the band so that enthusiastic attendees don't impact the playing.

"Last year, about 500 people gathered at the cross to see in the New Year in a really cheerful and festive atmosphere.

"This is very much a traditional engagement for the band and we normally get a good turnout of players despite the late hour!"
