'THE Donald' has taken pride-of-place in a local village.

However, President of the USA, Donald Trump, has not made an impromptu return to the country of his ancestors - in this case The Donald is the new name of a tractor tasked with pulling lifeboats onto the Findhorn Marina for Moray Inshore Rescue Organisation (MIRO).

MIRO received 29 entries to a competition they launched in April to name a new Kubota tractor, partly funded by the Department of Transport Inland Rescue Boat Grant Fund, which will be used to launch and recover their rescue boat, Glyn Whitehead III.

MIRO's crew voted on the proposed names and selected Fifer Jamie Tinch's suggestion.

Jamie said: "I’ve been visiting Findhorn since I was six-months-old. I learned to water-ski in the bay and worked for a time at both the Crown and Anchor and Kimberley Inn, where I was the chief pint-puller! I also met my wife in Findhorn, which was quite a coincidence as we are both from Fife!"

MIRO operations manager, Peter Mackenzie, confirmed that Jamie will be presented with a MIRO goodie bag on his next visit to Findhorn.

He said: "Thank you to everyone who took the time to suggest names for our new tractor. Our weekly crew training is still suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic so an official naming ceremony will have to wait until restrictions are lifted. However, our crew are ready to respond should MIRO be tasked to assist in an emergency situation."

MIRO chairman, John Low, added: "The new tractor will enable our crew to safely launch the MIRO rescue boat in the winter months when the dry dock and pontoon are off the water."
