Buckie teen snaps life in lockdown to win Gary Muirson Photography competition

A TEENAGER from Buckie has won a photography competition with the theme 'My Lockdown'.
Gary Murison Photography (GMP), based at Burshaugh, Forres invited young people aged 12 to 17 to take part in the contest for the chance to win private tuition and the businesses owner had a tough task in choosing a winner from 35 entries.
Gary said: "The quality of the entries was excellent and very much highlighted how everyone saw and experienced the lockdown in different ways. The creative thinking of young people always impresses me and it is always interesting to see how they will interpret and portray their thoughts into photography. Every photo portray a very unique experience for the photographer and it was so nice to be part of that experience. "
Courtney Clamp (13) took a picture of her little sister Alicia (8) in a window sill at home pressing her hand against the glass while her mum does the same outdoors and from the safety of the other side of the pane.
Gary added: "Courtney’s was chosen because it had immediate impact and represented a very emotional situation that many people relate to."
The Buckie Community High School student was thrilled to hear her image was successful.
She said: "It was a huge shock as I didn’t expect it. It totally brightened my day!
"I wanted the window in the picture to represent the barrier and space we have to keep to at this current time. One of the things Alicia is finding the hardest is seeing people but not able to hug them."
Courtney's mum Vicki is proud of her daughter's winning shot but conceded that photography is not her major passion.
She said: "I encouraged Courtney to enter the competition after seeing it on social media. I am really delighted for her and thought her idea was a great one.
"She likes to take pictures for fun but she is hoping for a career in music as she is a cellist!"
The winning prize is two hours of one-to-one photography tuition with Gary.
He said: "This will be arranged for a time after restrictions are lifted sufficiently. It is most likely that it will be outdoors, offering Courtney lots of practical experience, tips and tricks.
"A huge thank you to everyone for taking part in the contest. Every photograph is wonderful and very personal to each person who entered it. I will hopefully be running more contests in the future, so please continue taking the wonderful photos!"
