A teenager who carried out an attack outside a bar has been told he could have been jailed if he was older.

Witnesses saw Giacomo Innes punching his victim several times in the head.

The other man fell face-first onto the ground and the 19-year-old then kicked him in the body.

Elgin Sheriff Court heard that the victim required seven stitches for injuries to his lip and eye lid.

But before being taken to Dr Gray's Hospital he was questioned by the police.

The victim identified his attacker as being about 5ft 5 and having a moustache.

The officers went into the Eagle bar in Forres and picked out Innes as matching the description.

As they approached he ran off but encountered another police officer who was walking down Forres High Street.

Fiscal depute Susan Love said: "The defendant jumped on top of the officer and they both fell to the ground."

The prosecutor stated the officer received a cut knee in the following struggle which saw Innes also kick him in the back.

Innes was eventually handcuffed and placed in the back of a police van.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and one of resisting arrest, all relating to events which happened during the evening of February 5.

Sheriff Olga Pasportinkov told the teenager that, due to his age, she was stopping short of jailing him.

However, she placed Innes, of Balnageth, Forres, under the supervision of social workers for a year.

She also ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work for the community during the same period.
