SUPERMARKET employees raised £1615.56 running a local Race for Life on Saturday, April 24.

Twenty-seven Team Tesco members split into small groups, covering 5k from the car park, along Pilmuir Road West through the flood alleviation scheme to Grantown Road and back, to be greeted by store manager Andrew Stewart with pink gift bags and water.

Shop worker Daniella Hay completed the event in 31 minutes with her sister Jordanna Alexander and daughter Georgie (9).

She said: “Race for Life is a cause very close to my heart – we ran for my granddad’s partner Audrey who has been diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 90.”

Race for Life is an annual fundraiser organised by charity Cancer Research UK. Entrants run, jog or walk a 5k, 10k or ‘Pretty Muddy’ course, raising funds for cancer research.

Daniella was particularly proud of her daughter, Anderson’s P5 pupil, Georgie.

She said: “Last year, Tesco arranged a Race for Life around the overspill car park which Georgie joined and ran circles round us! She couldn’t wait to do it this year. She loved getting sponsors and running for someone she loves. She wanted to show her aunty that she could do it – she did amazingly well!”

Race for Life 2021 had been scheduled to take place in Inverness but was cancelled again due to Covid.

Daniella said: “Georgie thought it would be in Inverness but this was just as good. I sent off for a Race for Life medal for her. It’s dated 2020 as they had lots left from last year’s cancelled events and lost out on a lot of funds!”
