Teachers speak up

This letter is a personal statement by the undersigned, and does not represent the views of the Moray Steiner School.

Public Sector Protest

Speaking as free teachers working in a self-governing Steiner-Waldorf school, we note the grave step many public sector teaching colleagues felt impelled to take on 30th November, by striking. We recognise that such action is a step of last resort for all professional teachers. We hear that many made this decision to voice protest at the inequity of targets chosen by government to bear the cost of irresponsibile financial actions made by a privileged few. Targeting the public sector disproportionately affects the most vulnerable and the most precious in our society. Although we are not public sector employees and were not on strike, nevertheless we add our voices in support of colleagues in mainstream education. We most particularly support the belief that it is unjust to place the burden of paying for the debt upon those least responsible.
