A SMALL school with a big appetite for community spirit and good food has served up a seasonal fundraiser.

Logie Primary in Dunphail, near Forres, with just 33 pupils, relies on regular events to fulfil its pledge of ‘no child left behind’, ensuring equity for all.

Since March, because of covid, all their usual fundraisers have been cancelled.

The parent council looked to neighbours, many of them former pupils, to submit a recipe for a cook book.

The result was The Logie 100, which for the school is serving as a reminder of its close ties with the Dunphail community.

The book has been a runaway success and there is still time to pick up a copy.

Jon Hunter, chairman of the parent council, said: "I am constantly amazed by what a small school such as Logie Primary has proved it can do.

"It’s a close-knit community that nurtures cooperation and integration. The children already grow their own ingredients and cook for the school’s Community Café – held once a month in the hall in normal times – so a recipe book was a natural next step.

"Logie Primary proves that being a small school is no bar to success."

And head teacher Helen Douglas added: "We are delighted with the concept of the Logie 100 Cookbook. It brings together the school community, past and present, and celebrates the wonderful diversity found in the Dunphail and Forres area.

"We are grateful for the support of our incredible parent council in helping us to achieve our aim of ‘no child left behind’ – a belief in equity and dignity for all.

"The funds will be used to subsidise learning experiences and resources as we continue to nurture ‘change-makers of the future’.

There’s been great support, too, from local businesses. Moravian Digital Press has been very supportive, while Logie Steading has offered space on its website for online sales and is stocking the book in its Gallery.

The Finderne Development Trust has helped with publicity.

If you would like to buy a copy (£8) as a gift for yourself or for someone else, particularly someone with links to the school, call Moira Dennis on 01309 611771 (local deliveries are available) or go online at www.logie.co.uk/the-logie-100.

Book orders are available by post or for collection at the Gallery at Logie Steading.
