Forres Bluefins Swimming Club awarded £3k by Berry Burn wind farm Community Fund
A sports club that relaunched last year is investing more than £3000 generated by natural energy.
Forres Bluefins Swimming Club has been awarded £3,489 by the Berry Burn wind farm Community Fund for management software, coaching and judging training, as well as equipment.
President Clare X confirmed the club is delighted.
She said: “The funds will assist club development and benefit more than 70 swimmers.
“The money will be invested in training fins, hand paddles, pull buoys and bungees across the three squads, Scottish Swimming coach and judge qualifications, and TeamUnify software to assist in the running of the club.”
Bluefins have attended a number of recent swimming events including the Elgin Spring Meet, Nairn IM challenge and a North District meet in June with a bronze medal for Sharks squad member Kitty Clinch (13) in the 200m Butterfly race.
The club is looking forward to hosting a mini meet for swimmers aged 8-11-years-old at Forres Swimming Pool on Saturday, September 28.
“It’s a one day event for swimmers including those who may be entering their first competition,” explained Clare. “It will be a great day, with individual and relay events as well as promotion of team spirit!
“We welcome clubs to enter by contacting matchsec@forresbluefins.co.uk.”
Forres Bluefins coaches, volunteers and committee members have been working hard since January 2023 to re-establish the club which was initially founded in 1975.
“We’re growing and developing,” said Clare. “We are now at over 70 members as we approach 50 years-old!
“We continue our fundraising efforts and are always keen to acquire sponsors to assist in supporting our young swimmers.”
