TWO Forres-based cadet shooters were the top Scottish team of a national shooting competition.

1st Battalion The Highlanders' cadets, cadet corporal Jennifer Calder (16) and cadet corporal Leah Goodman (16) from Forres Detachment, represented the Battalion at the inter-service cadet rifle meeting, held at Bisley Rifle Ranges in Surrey.

The competition saw the Forres girls, along with Cpl Andy Tait, from Dingwall, and Cpl Jakub Bialkowski and Cpl Ben Hayllar, from Elgin, fire the cadet target rifle at 300, 500 and 600 yards, competing against more than 380 cadets in 90 teams from UK's three cadet services, as well as teams from across the world including the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and the Hong Kong Air Cadets.

The team qualified for the competition after finishing third in the Scottish Cadet Target Rifle Meeting in May, held at Barry Buddon, near Dundee.

The team were presented with their badges during the Battalion’s annual camp in Warcop. All five cadets were presented with a Bisley 2019 badge for competing and a special badge to mark the 150th imperial meeting.
