A home is urgently being sought for a dog with a very distressing problem.

Before coming to Miracle's Mission, a charity which helps disabled animals, Maya had mutilated one of her back legs to the point it needed amputating.

Maya currently wears a cone to stop her damaging her remaining back leg.

A spokesperson for Miracle's Mission said: "Maya has been with us since last September.

"However at the end of August she will have to leave her current foster placement through no fault of her own.

"We are desperately searching for somebody to help her, either fostering or through a paid placement.

"With the current re-homing crisis it's hard enough to place a dog with no issues, let alone a special dog with additional needs like Maya."

Maya is now on various medication trials which have helped her hugely.

She is also being seen by an animal behaviourist who, the charity says, has worked wonders.

The consultations with the behaviourist will continue online so she can be placed anywhere.

The spokesperson continued: "Maya needs a place where she will be loved and given the additional care that she requires.

"She needs somebody with experience of aggression in dogs, as while Maya is extremely loving she can be reactive.

"She can live with other dogs but would potentially need slow introductions.

"There would have to be the capacity for her to live separately if she decides she can't get along with the others."

Maya is a mixed breed and possibly about six years old.

Her age is not known for certain as she is originally a stray from Egypt.
