Samuel Stephens was awarded the medal - which has recently been discovered at RAF Kinloss - in 1953.

The medal, along with associated paperwork was presented in a special display case by Mrs Stephens to RAF Kinloss on June 24, 1971.

Mr Stephens served is believed to have served at RAF Kinloss as Station Warden between November 1939 and July 1953.

He was awarded the prestigious BEM (British Empire Medal) in January 1953.

Now that RAF items are being removed from RAF Kinloss, the search is on to find someone associated or related to Mr Stephens so it can be given to them.

Frank Antley, a civilian who has been involved in sorting out heritage items on the Transition Wing at the base,

“I know that it is a long shot,” he said “but it would be great to make contact with a family relative, otherwise, it could end up stored away somewhere, ending up in a cardboard box, which would be a shame because it is a very special medal.”

Anyone who has information about the medal or any of the family members, should contact: Frank Antley C2, Transition Wing, PMO Heritage 2, Royal Air Force Kinloss, Forres IV36 3UH.
