Douglas Ross took time out this lunchtime to serve the diners at the Ramnee Hotel in Forres in order to help highlight the initiative introduced by Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor.

He said: "This scheme is exactly the sort of initiative which will help businesses in Moray and Scotland, bounce back from the restrictions which they had to endure during the last few months.

Mr Ross, who looks likely to be named the leader of the Scottish Conservatives later this week, added: "The Covid-19 pandemic has hit rural Moray and every other corner of Scotland.

"It has also damaged every sector of our economy, threatening businesses and jobs.

"The Eat Out to Help Out scheme and the reduction in VAT for the hospitality and tourism sectors are crucially important to get people back into our restaurants, cafés and hotels."

From Mondays to Wednesday during August diners will get a 50 per cent discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks – up to a maximum of £10 discount per person – at venues signed up to the scheme.
