AN event in Moray has highlighted the heavy toll taken on military veterans by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Cumming Hall in Kinloss was the venue on Saturday as the community got together in aid of Veterans United Against Suicide.
The challenge was for a team to row, run or cycle 418 miles – representing the 418 deaths over 20 years as a result of PTSD.
Tom Sherwin, a mental health first aider attached to 39 Engineer Regiment at Kinloss Barracks, said: "The atmosphere was phenomenal and the 418-mile target was soon passed thanks to all the volunteers who took part.
"Local businesses were hugely generous with their donations towards the raffle stall.
"There were also cakes and activities for children, so it was a great day out for everyone.
"We are very proud of our regiment and our community, and want to thank everyone for their support. So far we have raised £1,088.32 and the total keeps rising."
Becky Lawton, who played a leading role in organising the event, said "I am so overwhelmed by the response and by the amount of support we received from 39 Engineer Regiment and the local community for our fundraiser to bring awareness of PTSD.
"The turnout of volunteers who took time to come and support the cause was amazing and it was heart-warming to see a community come together and raise money for Veterans United Against Suicide, a non-profitable organisation, who work tirelessly to help veterans, serving soldiers and their families.
"A huge thank you for all the support. We have raised a huge amount and donations are still coming in."
