RAF Lossiemouth welcomes new commander
An RAF base’s new station commander says she is looking forward to building on its relationship with the nearby community.
Group Captain Sarah Brewin has taken over command of RAF Lossiemouth having previously served on the base commanding the Personnel Management Squadron and Base Support Wing.
The new station commander joins fresh from overseeing the RAF’s estate of over 30 sites, 10,000 buildings and 29 active airfields.
Her career in the RAF has taken her to the Falklands for a brief stint in the British Forces HQ South Atlantic Islands but she has also served for over 15 years in the RAF Mountain Rescue team.
Group Captain Brewin said: “It is a huge privilege and pleasure to assume command of a Royal Air Force station where our people are delivering operations 24/7 to secure the seas and skies of the United Kingdom.
“I know from my previous tours that what makes Lossie special is the great relationship that we enjoy with the local community.
“I am really looking forward to working with them over the next two years.”
Group Captain Jim Lee, the outgoing station commander, was clapped off station as per tradition marking the end of a tour which saw him oversee considerable growth at the base.
He said: “When I first took command I told Team Lossie that I wanted to make RAF Lossiemouth an even better place to live, work and stay and I think we’ve certainly achieved that over the last couple of years.
“At the same time, I believe in planting trees we’ll never see, and I’m sure that we’ll see our efforts in advancing the Lossie Vision bear fruit in the years to come.
“I want to thank our personnel, and the community that supports us.
“We could not have achieved the growth, both in terms of our operational output, and in infrastructure, without you.”
