Drumduan School pupils completed a fundraising Kiltwalk from Aberdeen to Banchory

LOCAL pupils walked a total of nearly 25 miles to raise funds for repairs to their school.

The group included Archie Maclean (15) and his mum Fiona, who took on ‘The Mighty Stride’ Kiltwalk - 17.5 miles from Aberdeen to Banchory - in support of Drumduan School on Clovenside Road.

Fiona set up a crowdfunder at https://gofund.me/cace1bc0 which has so far raised nearly £1400.

She said: “The Aberdeen Kiltwalk was great fun! The route was beautiful and it felt fantastic to be part of such a friendly event. The highlight was the choice of a hot meal and a seat to rest our tired feet at the end!”

She added: ““The rise in living costs has had a huge impact on Drumduan’s finances. We’re blown away by the support we’ve received and would be grateful for any further donations.”

Kiltwalkers raised over £1million in total at the event - more than 5000 walkers strode out for nearly 500 Scottish charities, many in tartan.

Another team walking on behalf of Drumduan School completed the 'Wee Stride' of five miles.

Founded in 1919, there are now fee-paying non-mainstream Steiner Schools in 64 countries. Drumduan School’s Waldorf Steiner Education offers a holistic curriculum from Kindergarten to class 12. Education is based around connection to nature and creativity.​

Archie’s family live in Culbokie on the Black Isle and the pupil travels the 36 miles to Forres every day for his schooling.

Mum Fiona said: “We made the decision to move Archie from his local high school to Drumduan two-and-a-half years ago.

“Drumduan means a great deal to us as he struggled with his former large school. It offers him a calmer and more supportive environment to learn in.”
