A HALLOWEEN event helped raise nearly £900 for charity.
Organisers Liza Hollingshead and Robyn Cooper of the pumpkin trail at Grant Park on Saturday, October 30, confirmed the £883.94 will go to Findhorn-based children’s charity Ecologia, to help transform the lives of young people and families affected by poverty, poor family support and low social/emotional skills.
Associate director of international projects, Robyn Cooper, confirmed the money will help disadvantaged children involved in Ecologia projects in Kenya, Uganda and Russia.
She said: “The event went very well! We thought around 100 people might turn up during the trail opening times of 11am-3pm but there were more than 400, including some from Inverness. We had a fundraising target of £200, but were blown away by the amazing community spirit in the area. We loved seeing everyone – adults and children – turn up in the most wonderful guising costumes.”
Entry was £2 per person with under-fours going free.
The trail went around Grant Park and Cluny Hill, encouraging participants to hunt down pumpkins. Maps were available from Ecologia’s stall at the park. Each pumpkin had a name to fill in on it. Those taking part were to collect them all and return the map for a prize.
“The children loved it,” said Robyn, “They were each given a bag of sweets once they had finished. Parents said their thanks for planning such a fun event for everyone!”
Every Monday this month Ecologia is holding Paint ‘n’ Sip events at Moray Arts Centre from 4-5pm. Participants pick festive ornaments to decorate while drinking a hot brew or warm mulled apple juice. Tickets are £10 per adult, £5 per child or a family ticket is £20 for two adults and three children. Limited space so pre-book.
