LOCAL supermarket shoppers voted to award volunteers with £1000 to make the town look even more festive this December.

The Forres Christmas Lights Committee (FCLC) will invest a Tesco Community Grant in modernising the High Street and Tolbooth Street displays.

FCLC member, Alan Hunter, is delighted and grateful.

He said: “Thank you to Tesco and the public for putting their blue voting tokens in our box. We got the full amount we applied for and will use it with some of our own funds to buy LED low power lights to replace some of our old lights that have higher running costs.”

FCLC are looking into a variety of new projects.

“Some of the fuse boxes on High Street need replacing,” said Mr Hunter. “We are also looking at purchasing cross street lights for Tolbooth Street.”

Mr Hunter pointed out that many funding organisations encourage public consultation.

He added: “If anyone has any ideas of how we could improve Forres’s Christmas display, let us know.”
