POLICE have responded to a number of complaints about indiscriminate parking in the area.

Inspector Keli McPhail updated Forres Community Council (FCC) on reported issues around High Street, Orchard Road, Burdsyard Road and the B9011 shore road in Findhorn.

She said: "In relation parking near the kebab shops on High Street, I am aware of the problem there. As there is a single yellow line outside Speedy Pepper with limited restrictions - people can park there after 6pm - we can only take action for vehicles at certain times. People park opposite the junction at times and that is far from ideal.

"To solve the problem would mean the local authority changing it to double yellow lines, which I would support as it would provide pedestrians and drivers a clear view at all times of the whole road."

The Gazette passed on a reader's complaint about vehicles regularly parking on the pavement near the harbour at Findhorn.

She said: "People have to walk on the road to get around our own village as clowns can’t find a place to park so they use the pavement. We passed a police van coming into the village who saw people use the road to walk on to get passed it yet they drove past and did nothing!"

Insp McPhail replied: "Obstructing the public pathway is an offence. They are doing it in the hope of avoiding a penalty for parking on the double yellow lines.

"I have advised all of my officers and included it in our patrol area for the foreseeable future. They will deal with any offending vehicles appropriately, normally by means of a parking fine."

She added: "The reason that they drove past is they were attending a call which took priority, but rest assured that the parking problem will be dealt with."

FCC discussed a complaint about parking near the Legion roundabout on Orchard Road across from Applegrove Primary School and on Burdsyard Road outside the swimming pool.

Insp McPhail said: "Regarding Orchard Road, I have made officers area aware and they will deal with any obstructions or persons parking on double yellow lines.

"Likewise for Burdsyard Road, I will ensure that there is passing attention there to encourage people to park responsibly."

She added: "We are also looking in to reported speeding at Mannachie and on Grantown Road."
