Police are trying to spread the word about a recent scam targeting smaller independent garages and tyre distributors.

Crooks are using cloned credit cards to orders for tyres over the phone.

The transactions clear initially and, by the time the fraud is identified, the tyres have been picked up.

Crime Reduction Officer PC Mark Irvine said: "When taking credit card orders online, always ensure you take all the card details.

"That includes the number, expiry date and three digit security code, as well as a full name, address, postcode and contact numbers.

"Before handing over the goods, request to see the credit card used to place the order or proof of identity."
