POLICE are to carry out speed checks on a local road that has seen increased traffic.

St Leonard's Road residents including Jane Yeadon raised the issue with Moray Council because they believe safety is a concern while more motorists, driving heavy goods vehicles in particular, travel up and down the hill.

Jane said: "I contacted our councillors because I am greatly concerned about safety on St Leonard's Road which has become increasingly noisy and with dangerously fast drivers.

"It's grand to see an increasing level of cyclists but my admiration is mingled with fear for their safety in very speedy traffic including ambulances based at Leanchoil responding to what apparently seems to be increasing 999 calls."

She added: "The single pavement is inadequate, especially in these times of social distancing. At the bottom of St Leonard's Road, there's hardly room for one person.

"Double-trailered, heavily laden lorries can have a problem negotiating the roundabout and casting a load would have tragic consequences."

Local councillor George Alexander (Independent) has contacted Police Scotland on behalf of the street's residents.

He said: "Big quarry and wood lorries are using Orchard Road - I thought they would use the Enterprise Park road.

"The local police inspector has told me that she will ask her local staff to do some speed checks."
