POLICE carried out patrols over the weekend to discourage antisocial behaviour around Forres.

From Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20, officers and special constables focused on areas where young people regularly gather, including local beauty spots, hospital, medical and school grounds, where incidents of anti-social behaviour and youth disorder had been identified by members of the public.

Local policing inspector for Forres, Kerry Rigg, said: "Antisocial behaviour can impact widely on any community. This weekend our officers and special constables engaged positively with young people, educating them around how noise levels and inappropriate behaviour were impacting on the local residents, and encouraging them to consider their behaviour."

The focus of the patrols were to provide community reassurance and promote positive engagement with local youths.

A number of large groups of young people were dispersed. Several were given advice in relation to cycle safety and one young person will be reported in relation to two incidents of vandalism. Two drivers were also dealt with for anti-social driving offences.

Insp Rigg added: "These patrols are to continue over the coming weeks and we are keen to tackle issues affecting local residents. I would encourage members of the public to contact police on 101 regarding any concerns they have."

Anonymous reports can be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
