Forres police deal with housebreaking, domestics, assault, antisocial behaviour, speeding and illegal parking over June and July

SEVEN instances of housebreaking were recorded in two months in the Forres area.

The cases were included in police reports for June and July issued to Forres Community Council which also listed domestic cases, assault and speeding.

In the Community Safety Report, Forres police inspector Andrew Meikleham also raised issues of antisocial behaviour and illegal parking in and around the town.

He said: "Concerns continue to be raised by residents in the area regarding youth annoyance. Youths tend to congregate during weekend evenings. Officers are engage with parents and the youths. Targeted uniformed and plain clothed patrols have resulted in a notable decrease in the number of calls received and these patrols will continue through the summer months.

"During July, community officers carried out high visibility patrols around the town centre, issuing tickets to vehicles illegally parking. A number of drivers were also educated."

He added: "Community officers have also been carrying out 'ditch the dealer' patrols in locations across Forres to gather intelligence with regards to drug dealing."

There were a number of instances of antisocial behaviour, violence and disorder over the last two months.

In June, two incidents of a domestic nature were reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Two incidents of assault involving juveniles were reported to police - one has been dealt with whilst enquiries are still on-going into the other.

A further assault was reported to the Procurator fiscal.

Over July, six incidents of a domestic nature were dealt with by police, five of which were reported to the Procurator Fiscal, whilst enquiries are still on-going with the other.

Five incidents of assault were reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Acquisitive crime dominated the most recent Community Safety Reports.

In June, there were three incidents of theft by housebreaking in the Forres area, two of which have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Enquiries are still on-going with the third report.

In July, there were three incidents of housebreaking with intent to steal, two incidents of theft and one of theft by housebreaking reported in the area. Enquiries are on-going with each incident to establish the full circumstances.

Road safety and crime was also listed over the two months.

In June, a driver was reported to the Procurator Fiscal for travelling in excess of 90mph in a 60mph area and another driver was reported for travelling in excess of 45mph in a 30mph area.

In July, road police conducted proactive patrols in all areas. Three drivers were reported to the Procurator Fiscal for no insurance.

In June, PC Michelle MacDonald visited Logie and Alves Primary Schools during their health weeks to talk to pupils about what to do in an emergency with the pupils.

PC’s MacDonald and Aaron White also visited Anderson’s Primary School where they were joined by the Scottish Ambulance Service, the Fire Service and Air Ambulance, allowing pupils question and answer time with each service.

The PCs also partnered with Kinloss Primary on the Junior Cop initiative, to explore more creative ways of getting the message to drivers that their driving directly effects the safety of pupils.

Kinloss P4/5 joined the officers on speed checks and a number of drivers were found to be exceeding the speed limit. They were invited to complete a survey and educated by the pupils.
