POLICE are stepping up efforts to investigate ongoing motor offences in the area.

Forres Community Council (FCC) contacted Inspector Kerry Rigg of Forres Community Policing team to pass on examples they regularly experience themselves.

FCC member and Market Street resident, Frank Byrne, raised the issue during August's meeting of the watchdog group.

He said: "There are loud exhausts going off all over town every day and during the time of a major incident at Market Street in July, the police stopped a few speeding vehicles while they were there for a few days. They said they would maintain a presence there as it was a black spot but didn't. I haven't seen them since."

He added: "Every day there are speeders on Pilmuir Road, on the adjacent section of the A96 and on the Kinloss road."

Mr Byrne's FCC colleague Fiona Graham of Califer added: "You can hear them from Tesco to Nairn!"

Inspector Rigg confirmed that targetting speeding and anti-social driving is a priority for the local police.

She said: "We have received various complaints about vehicles behaving in an inappropriate manner and we have a number of targeted action plans in place to help reduce this.

"Working closely with road policing, the community policing team will act on any information they receive and we encourage anyone who has concerns to get in contact with police.

"We will continue to enforce any offences identified."
