PLANS have been proposed to build housing on the site of a former long-running Forres business.

On May 12, Messrs W & D Reid, and Wittets Architects, submitted their application to Moray Council's planning department to demolish Direct Laundry Ltd ahead of construction of two townhouses and six flats with associated site works at at 3-5 Gordon Street.

The site is bordered by Varis Court to the north east plus Singapore House and a public car park to the south east. The other two sides are bound by pavement, roadway and homes on the opposite side of Gordon Street and North Road.

The laundry building currently on the site has been vacant for years and has decayed during that time. Its machinery has been removed.

A private soakaway to discharge surface water is possible within the site. The plans also show capacity for 13 new car parking spaces.

The townhouses at the higher end of the site next to the Hanover Housing complex have private gardens and the two ground floor two-bedroom flats are wheelchair accessible and classed as affordable housing.

The surface finishes include a mixture of low level planting, private garden spaces, permeable parking spaces, communal seating area and paved paths.

The public is welcome to comment on the planning application until Tuesday, June 16. The local authority will make a decision on July 7.
