The Grant Park 100 organisers have confirmed when and where traffic will be restricted

The organisers of another summer festival in the town centre have announced restrictions for motorists during the event.

Forres Events Limited’s (FEL) ‘Grant Park 100’ - at Grant Park on Saturday, August 24 - will celebrate the gifting of the land to the people of Forres with have-a-go activities and historical or locally linked competitions.

FEL chairman, Alan James, confirmed roads around the park will require temporary no parking restrictions.

He explained: “We are hoping to attract thousands of people to enjoy a wonderful day’s entertainment. The event will run from 11am-5pm and further details are available via www.grantpark100.com.

“In conjunction with Police Scotland and Moray Council, we have put in place temporary traffic regulations on the approach roads to ensure rapid, unimpeded access for emergency vehicles and to enable Police Scotland to recommend a traffic management plan to allow smooth traffic flows through the town.”

On Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (August 21-26), the north end of High Street will be affected near the Masonic Hall to give HGVs turning access into the park.

On the Friday and Saturday, the car park between the former Victoria Filling Station and the park toilets will be affected to allow for setting-up. FEL will work with local traders who use the car park on Fridays.

On the day of the event, Victoria Road and High Street on both sides approaching the South Street junction to the library turn-off will be affected. Also, St Leonard’s Road’s east side from Alexandra Terrace to the priority islands and the west side from Alexandra Terrace to the roadside treeline.

Additionally on the Saturday, to help traffic flows, from 10am-6pm, South Street will be one way from High Street to the junction with Leys Road, with closure of the eastbound lane. Eastbound traffic from South Street will be diverted into Leys Road and up to High Street.

“We have tried to avoid inconveniencing residents, and visitors, as far as possible,” finished Alan. “There will therefore be no additional parking restrictions on the west side of St Leonard’s Road between the trees and on the Grant Park side of South

Street.”

Restrictions will be on lamp post warning signs, marked with ‘no waiting’ cones and enforced by Police Scotland on Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
