A “paranoid man” who threatened a receptionist, an abuser who made his girlfriend feel “extremely isolated from her family and friends” and a drunk who called his elderly mother a “witch” all feature in this week’s court coverage.

‘Paranoid’ man threatened to starve dog so it would ‘eat’ receptionist

A man experiencing “paranoid delusion” told a Travelodge receptionist he would starve his dog for four days so it would “eat her”, a court has heard.

Robert Sutherland admitted making the remarks, along with telling a separate receptionist there were “snipers on the roof”, at Elgin Sheriff Court.

Moray alcoholic sentenced over shouting and swearing at elderly mother

A man who called his mother a “f*****g witch” was “genuinely heartbroken” to learn that he would be banned from contacting her, a court has heard.

At Elgin Sheriff Court, Finley Wood was ordered to stay away from his mother for five years over the incident in which he also said it was “about time” she was dead.

18-year-old roofer gets three-year roads ban

An 18-year-old roofer caught driving without insurance has been handed a three-year driving ban.

Appearing at Elgin Sheriff Court, Riley Russell was also ordered to complete 115 hours of unpaid work and will have to resit an extended test over the incident.

Man told child porn he downloaded ‘destroyed’ children’s lives

A man who claimed he clicked a link to child porn on his phone by accident was the target of scathing criticism from a Sheriff.

Adam Betteridge, of Main Street in Elgin, was told by Sheriff Gary Aitken that he needs to “dramatically” adjust his attitude, before Sheriff Aitken added that the children he watched were “being brutalised”.

Abuser made girlfriend feel ‘she was the reason he hit her’

A court has heard an extensive account of how an abuser repeatedly subjected two women to aggressive and controlling behaviour.

Mark Strathdee, of Land Street, Keith, previously admitted two domestic abuse charges, which included him hitting one partner and biting the other.

Forres man finally sentenced for his part in Inverness drugs dealing operation while a teenager in 2021

Police pursued a car on suspicion it was involved in drug dealing and when it slowed down at a junction, a 17-year-old youth jumped out of it carrying a black holdall which was later found to contain narcotics and cannabis.

The chase began in Inverness on June 2, 2021, and three men were inside with 55-year-old Mark Allsopp, of Church Street, Nairn at the wheel.
