THE COMMUNITY is invited to more free meals in 2020 following successfully-organised events last year.

Forres Area Community Trust (FACT) hope more people than ever attend the first next month, followed by the main meal in the summer.

FACT community development worker, Vicky Flood, confirmed Monday, February 10's meal from noon-2pm is on a school in-service day and The Big Lunch on Saturday, June 6, also at Forres Town Hall, should be even better attended with support from national initiative The Eden Project.

She said: "There is a lot FACT are planning this year to support the community.

"The Big Lunch is a way to get out-and-about, and meet the neighbours. Many people come together across the country to get involved. It's definitely one of the best ways to connect."

FACT and Moray Food Plus use food recovery for the community meals, ensuring that quality surplus food is put to good use rather than wasted at landfill.

She added: "Many people volunteer directly or attend with the group or organisation they represent. Getting involved with charities and local groups promotes a sense of well-being as well as enabling you to meet new folks or find like-minded people. It’s definitely good to get involved, whether you are turning up on the day or are part of the preparations. You never know what might be around the corner when you get together for a blether."
