One new death as 186 cases of coronavirus confirmed in Moray within last week

A MORAY resident has died of Covid-19, taking the area's death toll since the outbreak began to 43.

The person died in the week ending August 23.

Of the 43 people in Moray to have died of Covid-19, 33 tested positive for Covid-19 and passed away within 28 days, while 10 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

Meanwhile, total of 186 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Moray within the last week, taking the area's total since the outbreak began to 3140.

This is the most cases of Covid-19 ever confirmed in Moray within seven days – and is an increase on the 137 cases confirmed in last week's update.

However, a total of people 1167 have tested negative for Covid-19 since August 31, up from 739 last week. This is the most negative cases ever confirmed in a seven-day period.

NHS Grampian – which includes Moray, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City – has now confirmed 30,901 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak began – up 3304 from last week's update.

Moray neighbourhood update

A total of 21 out of 24 different 'neighbourhood areas' in Moray confirmed at least three cases of coronavirus between August 30 and September 5.

Elgin is the worst-hit town, with 66 cases of the virus.

Buckie confirmed 24 cases of Covid-19 during the same period, with 21 in Keith and Fife Keith, seven in Lossiemouth and six in Forres.

The following areas have also confirmed cases of the virus: Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry (18); Cullen, Portknockie, Fondochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock (17); Burghead, Roseisle and Laich (16); Mosstodloch, Portgordon and seaward (14); Fochabers, Aultmore, Clochan and Ordiquish (eight); South Speyside and the Cabrach (eight); Lhanbryde, Urquhart, Pitgavney and seaward (seven); Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley (six); Rafford, Dallas, Dyke to Dava (four); Rural Keith and Strathisla (four) and North Speyside (three).

The number of people aged 18 plus fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in Moray is 67,701, which is 87.3 per cent of the area's adults.

A total of 71,813 (92.7 per cent of Moray's adult population) have received one dose of a vaccine.

Across the NHS Grampian health board region, 89.9 per cent of adults (425,611 people) have received a first dose, with 84.1 per cent (398,287 people) having been fully vaccinated.

In Scotland, 4,130,841 people have received their first jab and 3,749,767 people have received both.
