A DEVELOPMENTAL playgroup based at Balnageith has opened a new feature.
Noah’s Ark Nursery has announced its new garden classroom, affectionately named 'The Pea Pod' by the attending children, paid for with a Scottish Government grant for the expansion of child care hours to improve learning environments and expand capacities.
Nursery manager Angela Mackay confirmed the addition is being used as a natural calming space for the children.
She said: "We let the children and their families offer names suggestions and the winner was pulled out of a hat – we now have The Pea Pod!
"It offers a flexible learning environment and can be used in different ways; we aim to use it as a quiet space for the children to retreat to as well as dancing yoga and drama.
"So far we've had the benefit of having lunch on the veranda, something the children really enjoy!"
Noah's Ark staff and directors dedicated the new space to long-standing board member, David Neely in time for his return from overseas. Mr Neely cut the opening ribbon while board members, staff, parents and children enjoyed cake in the sunshine.
Mr Neely was a driving force in transforming the small playgroup into the integrated developmental and mainstream nursery it is today.
Deputy manager Emma McCartney thanked him for his efforts.
She said: "We are where we are today because of David. We wouldn’t be in this building or have the ability to hire as many staff without his work."
