A Place Called Home (Live), taken from Ron’s highly acclaimed debut record Vincular, will be released on Friday, August 6.

The upbeat pop-inspired track features leading Scottish singer Ainsley Hamill, who also co-wrote the song, and was recorded live at Coda Productions in Glasgow.

The song is an ode to leaving home for the city, exploring the mixture of associated emotions – from the excitement of somewhere new to the yearning for home.

As a highly sought-after arranger, fiddler, guitarist and pianist, Ron has shared musical experiences with a vast array of artists across many genres and this is evident in his creative approach. Vincular was a culmination of his 10-year long music career, with the title reflective of his role as an accompanist; that is to bind, link and connect.

This single sees Ron evolve again, drawing inspiration from Ainsley’s contemporary crossover sound to create a captivating track that transports listeners to the raw, energetic environment of a live recording.

Alongside Ainsley, he is joined on the recording by some of the most revered musicians and rising stars within the Scottish folk scene including Mànran drummer Mark Scobbie, bass guitarist Simon Phillips, Fat-Suit’s Fraser Jackson on electric guitar and Yoko Pwno singer Lissa Robertson on backing vocals. The recording was mixed and mastered by Scott Wood at Oak Ridge Studios.

Ron said: “A Place Called Home really grew on me over time and is now one of my favourite tracks on the album. I love collaborating with Ainsley – she’s an incredible singer and her vocals on this track at the live stream blew me away. I wanted to share that moment with the world and release the live version as a standalone track.

“This single has more pop elements on it than my previous work and it’s been exciting for me to continue to test my versatility as a musician, exploring a genre that is quite unknown to me. Vincular was all about celebrating the role of the accompanist and this single is an extension of that – allowing Ainsley’s musicianship and unforgettable voice to take the spotlight, whilst exploring new ideas to take inspiration from and best showcase that within the song.”

A Place Called Home (Live) will be available to stream and download on all digital platforms from Friday, August 6.
