Forres-Vienenburg and Goslar Twinning Association Octoberfest at Forres Town Hall

Forres is set to host its third annual celebration of beer, sausage and music this month.

Octoberfest at the town hall from 7.30-10.30pm on Saturday, October 18, is in aid of the Forres-Vienenburg and Goslar Twinning Association.

Chairman, Dave MacFarquhar, claims, outside of Munich, you'll find no better beer festival.

He said: “You don't need to fly off to Germany to experience a good beer fest so forget about the cost of the flights, accommodation, tent seats and beer, which currently comes in at about £13 a litre!

The first ‘Oktoberfest’ was held in Munich in 1810 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen.

It now draws around seven million visitors each year and features amusement rides, games, food stalls, and traditional Bavarian dishes.

Forres Octoberfest has been attended by around 200 revellers-a-time over the last two years.

This year, the beer will be supplied by Spey Valley Brewers, there will be German sausages and live music by Stein Brass - a traditional German oompah band - from Moray.

“There will be a fair amount of ‘schunkeln’,” added Dave. “Linking arms and rhythmically swaying in time with the music.

“And this year, five raffle tickets will be awarded to anyone sporting Bavarian clothing so the town hall will be heaving with gents in lederhosen and ladies in dirndls, all singing along to the intoxicating rhythms!”
