Professor Caroline Hiscox, who was appointed Chief Executive last year, has urged the public to continue following the key guidance on how to stay safe to protect themselves and ease the pressure on the NHS.

Professor Hiscox said: "I think it is fair to say that the challenges we are going to face this year are going to be significant. That's not just relating to Covid-19. That's relating to other diseases such as the flu as well as the normal increase of demand of our health and care services over winter.

"We are expecting it to be a very challenging season on top of an already stretched system.

"However, we now have 20 months of learning in regards to how we respond best with the health and care system and so we are busy making sure we organise ourselves to make sure our response is the best it can be for the population of Grampian.

"That's a combination of how we are going to lead and manage across the system, the role the public will have to play and the prioritisation systems that we're putting in place."
