Findhorn Village Conservation Company has invested in a beach viewing platform
Visitors to a local beach can now view the Moray coast from a new viewing platform - installed by a group of volunteers.
The Findhorn Village Conservation Company (FVCC) raised the funding for the addition to a ramp allowing wheeled access to the views above the East Beach on the north shore.
TFVCC spokeswoman, Cathy Low, confirmed the group also funded the ramp at the West Beach car park.
She explained: “The ramps were installed to provide those who would find accessing the top of the sea defences difficult. Those with mobility issues have found them to be very particularly useful, providing a view of the beach and Moray Firth that would not have been possible without the ramps.
“We have not yet solved the challenge of how to get down onto the beach but we have provided access for many visitors and residents.”
TFVCC’s beach steps project secured funds from The Budge Foundation, The Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation, Berry Burn Community Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund, as well as a Just Giving campaign and private donations.
Local business Logie Timber provided the wood at a “very competitive price”.
Cathy explained that the viewing platform has been added to provide a seating area without blocking access.
She said: “We’ve had lovely feedback from able and not-so-able residents and visitors. They said they have enjoyed using the facilities.
“The new beach steps, ramps and viewing platform were a major project for TFVCC. We are very grateful to our funders and for the generous donations received which enabled us to complete this major project.”
TFVCC are reviewing the potential of installing a viewing platform at the West beach car park, dependant on available funds.
“The cost of maintaining the car parks, dunes track and toilets is significant,” finished Cathy. “We rely on the income from the motorhome stopover and west car parking to enable us to continue to maintain the area and make improvements where we can.
“We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.”
