The area, located just to the side of Pilmuir Primary School, is currently a building site, but in little over half a year it should be a new build bustling with young learners.

The new nursery is being built as part of the early learning and childcare expansion in Moray and will come at a cost of £2million. A similar project is going on in Cullen, where the cost is slightly lower.

Headteacher of Pilmuir Primary, Mr Leslie Tulloch, said: “It has been a positive experience for the children to get up close with the building site and I hope it gives them a real feeling that this nursery is theirs when they move into the new building.

“The children moving on to P1 after the holidays will be able to continue to see the progress from the playground and, you never know, we might have some budding architects, engineers and builders in our midst as a result.”

Contractors Morrison were at the site on Thursday, June 13, giving the nursery children safety tips and letting them know what they can expect to enjoy when their new home opens.

Billy McKay, the architect who designed the nursery layout, spoke to the children, as well as the press, on Thursday.

He said the building will have three classrooms and a kitchen, and says the primary six and seven classes from Pilmuir Primary have been undertaking construction related activities in relation to the operation.

He added that the huts, located just to the right of the school, will be removed and the pupils will have a playground at the back of the nursery.

Forres Councillor Lorna Creswell, whose daughter attended the nursery, is very positive about the project.

She told the Northern Scot: “The early years provision will give childcare for youngsters so that parents can take up study or work.

“Having the peace of mind that their children are safe and enjoying quality care in the new nursery gives the whole family more flexibility.

“The children are looking forward to indoor and outdoor kitchen facilities and linking with Forres Menshed and other community groups.

“I look forward to the completion of the new facility early next year.”

Paul Skilling, site manager, was also on hand to give a few words of advice to the children.

After the event, he added: “It was a pleasure to host the children and they enjoyed looking at the site. The joy and excitement they brought on their visit was the highlight of our week.”
