The section currently being worked on is from North Street to the pedestrian crossing outside the Town Hall at a cost of is £39,000.

The initiative follows a consultation between Moray Council’s Roads Department and Forres Community Council two years ago. It is intended to repave the entire High Street as and when the required funds are available. So far, most of the new brickwork has been laid from the centre of the High Street to the east end at Anderson’s Primary School.

“The pavements required extensive maintenance - they looked dreadful and were a disgrace to our lovely town,” said former Community Council vice chair, Bob Hellyer.

“The new ones look good and they are functional. All the council need do when maintenance is required in future is lift the bricks and carry out the work.

Mr Hellyer said that once it was finished the new pavement would stand the test of time.
