A man has been charged in connection with attempted murder following a serious assault in a Fife village.

Police were called to High Street in Newburgh on Wednesday morning following a report that a man had been injured.

Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken to hospital.

Police said a 42-year-old man has been charged in connection with attempted murder and is due to appear in court in due course.

The High Street was closed while emergency services attended the incident but later reopened.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at 7.24am.

A spokesperson said: “An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to Ninewells Hospital (Dundee).”
