Moray parent makes plea for safety after child found in possession of knife at Tomintoul Primary School

Officers spoke with the parents of the child and the police continue to work with partners in relation to the matter.

Moray Council says it cannot comment on the specific incident but confirmed that Police Scotland were called to a “primary school in Speyside”.

However, a letter sent by the school to parents, and seen by The Northern Scot, confirmed that a child was found to be in possession of a knife.

The letter reads: “I would like to make you aware of an incident at lunchtime today involving one of our pupils who had a knife in his possession. There was no intent to use it.

“When it was reported to staff, this matter was dealt with in a timely and appropriate manner and in accordance with local authority procedures and guidance.

“I can assure you that our main priority was the safety of all children and no one was harmed.”

A parent, who will remain anonymous, feels their child is not safe at the school.

They said: “The police are called but the school’s statement is that he didn't intend to use it.

“My child is not safe at Tomintoul Primary School.

“This child did not intend to peel potatoes or cut onions. He intended to inflict harm on another child.

“That is the only reason a child would take in a knife to school.”
