ScotRail managing director to meet with MSP Richard Lochhead to discuss Moray rail issues

The managing director of ScotRail has agreed to meet with MSP Richard Lochhead to discuss ongoing rail service issues in Moray.

Mr Lochhead will meet Joanne Maguire on Wednesday and says that he will raise concerns about cancellations on the Aberdeen to Inverness line, reliability of services and capacity on trains serving the north of Scotland.

The MSP has previously called for more direct services between Moray and the central belt.

Mr Lochhead said: “I’m looking forward to meeting ScotRail to discuss rail services in Moray and how we can continue to improve services for local rail users, and ensure they get the best value for money.

“We will only encourage people to swap their cars for public transport if those services are reliable and affordable, and of course available at the times when people need.

“The Scottish Government recently announced plans to permanently scrap peak rail fares, which I hope makes rail travel an option for more people in Moray.

“In the past, I’ve urged ScotRail to consider how it can introduce more direct services from Moray to the central belt and to reduce journey times, and I intend to raise these again when I meet the managing director.”
