He described having Ms Mordaunt visit was “fantastic”.

She was at the Tolbooth in the town to meet with local members and supporters and shared her thoughts on local, national and international issues.

Mr Ross said that the event was “thoroughly enjoyed” by those in attendance who were able to meet Ms Mordaunt and ask her opinions on a whole range of subjects.

He went on to say that hearing from her given current world events was “extremely timely” as well as having the chance discuss how people in Moray are, he claimed, being failed by both the SNP and Labour governments.

Ms Mordaunt added that it is always “great” to meet dedicated local Conservative supporters and volunteers across the United Kingdom and noted as a former defence secretary she knows how vital defence is to the people of Moray.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Ross said: “It was fantastic to welcome Penny Mordaunt to Forres for this event with local members and supporters.

“Penny continues to be very highly regarded following her time in government including being Defence Secretary and leader of the House of Commons.

“Given current world events in particular, it was excellent to be able to hear Penny’s thoughts on a wide range of subjects which I know was thoroughly enjoyed by those in attendance at the Tolbooth.

“It was extremely timely to hear from someone who had been in charge of the nation’s defence, as well as hearing her views on other local and national issues.

“I am very grateful to Penny for travelling up to Moray for this event and I look forward to seeing her again soon.”

Ms Mordaunt added: “It is always great to meet and speak to dedicated Conservative supporters across the United Kingdom and I was delighted to join them in Forres alongside Douglas.

“As a former defence secretary I am acutely aware of how important the defence sector is across Moray and the role the area plays in keeping the country secure, which is growing increasingly important as we witness concerning developments in Ukraine and a growing realisation that Europe has to commit more to defence.

“The visit also offered me a great opportunity to listen to local members and supporters in the area about our own party and how they are being failed by both the SNP and Labour governments.

“I look forward to coming to Moray again and giving my thanks to faithful supporters, members and volunteers who will be crucial to our future success.”
