Moray mothers attacked man in Rothes home with metal pole and golf clubs
Two Moray mothers entered a man’s home and struck him with a golf club, metal pole and a piece of wood in an attack that endangered his life.
Debbie and Rachel Baillie, of Provost Christie Drive and High Street in Rothes, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court charged with assaulting a man in the Green Street area of the town on March 26, 2021, to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and danger of life.
Debbie Baillie, whose age was given as 28, had admitted the offence prior to a seven-day trial earlier this year, with Rachel Baillie, age given as 32, being found guilty by a jury.
Both women were given restriction of liberty orders, confining them to their homes between 7pm and 7am - Debbie for four months and Rachel for six.
The trial heard that their victim had been repeatedly struck on the head and body with a metal pole, a golf club and a piece of wood during the attack.
Rachel Baillie's lawyer, Robert Cruickshank, told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "She did not go to the house with any weapons but a knife was produced by another.”
He said his client has turned her back on substance abuse since the attack.
"The passage of time has allowed her to demonstrate significant changes in her lifestyle, which back then was chaotic,” he added.
"She has resisted substance misuse and is engaging with services to support her."
Debbie Baillie's agent Clare Russell said of her client: "Her consumption of illicit substances contributed to this incident.
“She pled before the trial and accepts responsibility.
"She has turned her life around 180 degrees and when she thinks about this incident, she feels physically sick.
“She has no matters outstanding and is committed to being a good mother."
In addition to being confined to their homes, both women were placed under 18 months of social work supervision.
